Community Research for Liberation National Convening
SAVE THE DATE: June 10-11, 2027
Westminster Presbyterian Church, Minneapolis, MN
The Community Research for Liberation Convening was founded on the belief that collective liberation depends on our nation’s willingness to build new tables with Black women, girls, and femmes—who continue to show they’re the driving force behind expanding what’s possible now and in the future.
We invite community members of all ages, educators and academics, nonprofit staff and organizers, frontline public service workers, and philanthropic leaders of all racial, ethnic, and gender identities to attend the convening. Participants will gain tools and training in: liberatory research design, healing-centered engagement, and building accountable partnerships across community and institutional settings. The 2027 Convening invites participants to imagine, describe, and build the future we want together.
Building on the foundation set at last year’s gathering, the 2027 event challenges us to move from examining the systems we have inherited toward envisioning and creating what comes next. Our theme, Blueprints for Liberation: Wisdom, Imagination, and Solidarity, invites presenters and attendees to explore multiple ways we can draw on ancestral and community wisdom, imagine more liberatory possibilities, and strengthen solidarity across communities and movements to shape the future we want. The blueprints shared by presenters and workshop leaders aren’t meant to be a fixed plan or single route. Rather, they represent a collective vision created through community—shaped by people, relationships, knowledge, and movements that make it possible.

The 2027 convening is just the start of a longer journey.
Over time, we hope the convening will strengthen the field of community-based action research in our region. It will foster deeper trust and accountability among researchers, institutions, and communities. It will expand opportunities for participants to learn together, share lived experience, and hold one another accountable. It will also build cultural foundations for resilience, ensuring that research supports, rather than harms, communities.
