Help us Advance Equity in Action to Build a More Just and Equitable Future
By Dr. Brittany Lewis
I want to personally thank everyone who attended the Equity in Action Way Foundation’s Advancing Equity in Action Gala. What we experienced together was far more than a fundraising event—it was a celebration of what becomes possible when people come together with a shared commitment to equity, justice, and community.
The evening was filled with joy, fellowship, and inspiration. From the soul-stirring freedom songs shared by Thomasina Petrus and Kashimana (pictured below) to the warmth, humor, and brilliance of our emcees, Ashli Henderson and Tyrai Bronson, we created a space where hope and possibility could flourish. Together, we laughed, reflected, and renewed our commitment to building a world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
We were deeply honored to hear from Lakeisha Lee, Jewelean Jackson, Sommer Green, Chris Coleman, and Sheresee Turner (pictured below) as they shared stories of transformation and impact. Their reflections reminded us that when communities are trusted, resourced, and empowered, they can move institutions, reshape policies, and create lasting change. Their stories were a testament to what is possible when we have the courage to build new tables instead of waiting for a seat at existing ones.
The evening also marked our first Black Art Auction, held in partnership with the African American Leadership Forum. Featuring pieces centered on Black maternal health, the auction celebrated the power of Black creativity, storytelling, and vision to illuminate both our challenges and our collective path forward.
Because of the generosity of the attendees, we raised $10,000 to establish a financial relief fund that will help remove barriers to participation for community leaders. These leaders are often the visionaries, advocates, and changemakers our communities depend on, and your support helps ensure they can continue leading with strength and purpose.
While we celebrate this achievement, our work is not yet complete. We fell short of our goal to raise $50,000 for a Pro Bono Support Fund that would provide coaching, technical assistance, and training to small nonprofits that are doing critical work with limited resources. Yet if the evening taught us anything, it is that transformative change has always been fueled by people who believe that a better future is worth investing in.

Today, I invite you to help us continue building that future. Your contribution is more than a donation—it is a declaration that community wisdom matters, that grassroots leaders deserve support, and that equity is worth fighting for. If you are able, please consider making a gift and encouraging others in your network to do the same.
Together, we have already proven what is possible. Together, we can ensure that the leaders, organizations, and communities advancing equity have the resources they need not only to survive, but to thrive. The work continues, and with your partnership, so does the promise of a more just and equitable future.
