Interns & Fellows

At RIA we are committed to creating career pathways for both students actively enrolled in a college or university, community members, and advanced students or mid career professionals.

We seek candidates who are interested in and committed to:

  1. Co-producing equitable and actionable research products with community

  2. Creating intentional space for community and our partners to repair historic harms

  3. Willingness to grow not just your research skills but your interpersonal development skills and awareness

  4. Can make a two semester commitment or the equivalent of 8-9 months to ensure continuity with community members and partners on large-scale policy action projects that typically last a minimum of 12 months, and many, two years or more

  5. Racial justice work that requires we are both co-designing actionable research tools as well as rebuilding harmful relationships with affected communities

Learn more about our two programs and apply below!

The Equity in Action Internship Program

The Equity in Action Internship program is inspired by RIA's innovative and actionable research approach, which serves as the foundation for our work in various projects and informs our theory and strategy for promoting change. This program is for people currently enrolled in a college/university (typically an undergraduate) or a community member looking to volunteer. Interns must be able to commit 15 hours per week and be available on select evenings. This is a remote position.

The Ida B. Wells Fellowship Program

The Ida B. Wells Fellowship Program was named after Black feminist anti-lynching crusader Ida B. Wells who used the press and her own investigative journalism to dispel the myths of lynching in America, empower Black communities to share their truths, and create new counter-knowledge to advocate for protection and rights for all people. This fellowship program is for an advanced graduate student (MA of PhD) or early/mid career professional looking to gain experience supporting actionable research that brings advanced research and community engagement skills. The fellow must be able to commit to roughly 30 hours per week and be available on select evenings. This is a remote position.

Rolling application dates for both programs:

  • Applications for Fall 2024 are accepted until July 31, 2024
